How does one even start a blog? Do you introduce yourself, as if anyone besides a few friends and supportive family members will even stumble upon it?
Do you need to list a reason as to why sharing some thoughts once a while on a clunky website are worth a few moments of time to read? Or it just assumed the content will be a worthwhile use of your precious time?
Why am I even starting a blog? Okay, that one I can (and probably should) answer.
There are few reasons I’ve decided to take some of my own very limited time and dedicate it to what is more than likely an outdated form of content consumption (we’re not going to think about that though).
The main one is that I simply missed writing. I’ve journaled on and off for the years since college, but upon reflection, the time I enjoyed writing the most was when I was blogging during my semester abroad in New Zealand. And while this will be significantly less adventure-y, what I found I loved from that form of writing was being able to focus on a moment, a trip, an experience, a feeling and take the time to sit with it and expand on it. To do my best to bring my friends and family along with me for those months on the other side of the globe and experience everything I was experiencing.
Writing has always been an incredibly helpful way for me to process my thoughts, feelings and experiences, and since I’m better at expressing myself with written words over spoken words, maybe this is a helpful way for those around me to better understand my world, too.
So many people rave about journaling, but if I’m being honest, it has always been a rather sub-par exercise for me. Throwing my words in a space where everyone can read them (even if not a single soul ever does) simply holds a different weight for me, and thus forces me to take it more seriously. And actually stay committed.
Much like my New Zealand stories, I have no expectations for anyone else to actually see this. Truthfully, it might help me sleep easier to know no one is reading this, but I want to be able to look back at this season of my life the same way I can for my college years. So this is for me, and any others that happen to want to come along for the ride.
With all that being said, welcome to the blog :)
